This book wasn’t my favourite. The story idea is interesting enough; a young boy travels through a magical whirlpool to Atlantis and discovers he has been brought there because he is one of only three children who can save the city from destruction – but the actual page by page recitation of those happenings didn’t have the impact I was hoping for. I did appreciate that the three main characters were all flawed individuals who still had to figure out how to work together even though they constantly got on each other’s nerves. Speaking of things that get on your nerves, I do look forward to a time where the prepubescent male protagonists stop complaining about how girls are always crying. As if little boys don’t also cry, and should be allowed and encouraged to express their feelings in totally normal and healthy ways! Finding Atlantis isn’t the only book I’ve read that had that problem though, just the most recent and the straw that broke the camel’s back. That being said, Finding Atlantis is a strong first offering from a new writer who has a tonne of potential. This could be the beginning of a beautiful series.
